UX Designer / Web Developer
LOCATION: We are based, as is this position, in Tempe, AZ—an upbeat college town in the Greater Phoenix Metro area.
THE NUTS AND BOLTS OF THE JOB: We’re looking for an exceptional individual. If it’s you, you’ll be part of the cornerstone of our firm’s Design & Interactive team. Here’s our wish list—it’s ambitious, so we ask that you are as well:
Being an excellent web “implementer” isn’t enough for this position—you’ll also need to be an excellent UX designer. You’ll have to develop concepts and comps across a variety of media AND you’ll have to implement the web related ones in HTML, CSS, Jquery, etc. What we’re looking for is someone whose skills go beyond the basics.
In this position, you’ll work day to day on the design and implementation of interactive projects. You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with clients, front-end and back-end web/app developers and graphic designers, as well as the Zion & Zion PR/Social Media team, Internet Marketing department and Content Strategy department. You’ll get to do cool things that also are the “right” things to do for the client. You’ll get to propose new ideas, tools and techniques, and you’ll get to attend industry conferences in far flung lands, such as Tucson—just kidding. WE DO INDEED send our people all over the country to key conferences to facilitate continuous improvement of their skills. And we encourage continuous learning and support the idea of our company making software purchases that facilitate our designers doing ever-increasingly creative things.
Specifically, the ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience (HOWEVER, if you’re truly amazing, and don’t quite have the number of years listed below, we’ll still take a look at your portfolio and skills):
- 4+ years in graphic design working across print, web and other interactive media
- 4+ years in web design
- 4+ years in UX design
- 4+ years in CSS (not just the basics such as setting a font size or style, but also implementing cross-browser CSS and advanced controlling of positioning of divs on a web page)
- 4+ years in implementing table-less web design
- 2+ years experience with Jquery and similar
- 5+ years experience in an agency setting
- Some small amount of experience with AJAX, PHP, MySQL a plus, but not mandatory
The successful applicant must have a truly differentiated and impressive portfolio and must be absolutely committed to doing whatever it takes to move themselves, Zion & Zion, and our clients forward. If your work or work ethic is just on par with that of other designers, that won’t cut it.
